It is my conviction that every life is worthy of celebrating.
It is so because that person’s life was meaningful and purpose-filled.
As Psalm 139: 16b “all
the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to
be.”
I think it faithful to the Scripture to assert
that God has ordered our days such that the purpose for which God has made us
shall be accomplished.
As a eulogist, it is my calling to seek to discover that
purpose and to speak it it such that it brings praise, not only to the person
but also to God who made that person in His image.
I discover these purposes by interviewing family
and friends. I gather and sequence their memories and stories as they reveal
some tendency, attribute, purpose which seems consistent in that person’s life.
I have found that such interviews also
serve as a means of compassion to help family and friends grieve.
I seek out the adventures this person has
experienced.
I discover achievements acquired.
I report accolades offered
in respect of the person.
My eulogies and tributes are personalized and
relevant.
I do not deliver impersonal, cookie-cutter
eulogies that are a mere reading of the published obituary.
I mean to celebrate that person’s life such
that loved ones will feel a sense of peace and confirmation of love.
Everyone
deserves applause for something in life. I seek to find that
something and give it words of which it is worthy.
I offer tributes in the Indiana Counties of Elkhart, Kosciusko, and St. Joseph
