As part of a Birthday
celebration for Sherry, I arranged a night’s stay at the Essenhaus Inn,
Middlebury, Indiana.
On Friday, October 30,
the Essenhaus folk were hosting the last of three days of a Holiday Home and Fashion
Show during which they modeled clothing and tips on making the holidays
special.
This annual event began
in 2001 and so, we were celebrating the Quarter Century status of the event.
As I was the only male
guest, I was given a welcoming shout out from the stage by the General manager,
who I did not have the opportunity to discover her name.
Soft and gentle jazz
music, evoking the sense of autumn, played during the show while the announcer
described the clothing worn by the models.
Humor-loaded skits drew
laughter from the room-filling crowd.
Door prizes were given.
And before we had our lunch,
invocation of the blessing of the meal was offered.
Sherry enjoyed much fun at this event.
We are planning to return for next year’s event.
Perhaps word will get
around that guys are welcomed too.
That’s me, trailblazer in
the midst of social convention.
